Ref No380 OGD
TitleIMPERIAL TOBACCO COMPANY (OF GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND) LTD., OGDEN BRANCH
DescriptionRecords accumulated at the Boundary Lane, Liverpool headquarters of Ogden's Ltd, from 1902 trading as the Ogden Branch of the Imperial Tobacco Company. Archives relating to firms absorbed by, or closely associated with the Ogden Branch will be found, together with archives of other Branches of the Imperial Tobacco Co. In the nature of the tobacco industry, the records are primarily financial in content but there is some material concerning the corporate structure and management of the companies, their manufacturing plant, processes and output, and a considerable amount relating to staff wages and pensions. The surviving advertising material includes posters, guard books of registered labels for Ogden's and several other firms (many of very considerable artistic merit) and a large collection of the cigarette cards ('stiffeners'), which Ogden's pioneered in Britain and which played a key role in their expansion. A useful amount of printed material on the history of the tobacco industry was also transferred from Boundary Lane.
