Our archival holdings both extensive and diverse and many are considered to be of international significance. They include parish registers, archives of Liverpool City Council, local businesses, hospitals and family and estate papers. Some of the highlights include our photograph collections that have been awarded Designation status, the papers of the Earls of Derby and the Everton Collection. Examples can be seen in the showcase section of this website.

We hold a large amount of printed material relating to Liverpool and also to the surrounding area. All of our books have been indexed by author, title and subject and many by person and place. The full catalogue is now available here and associated reading guides can be found on our website

There are also approximately 4,000 images included in the catalogue attached mainly to the City Engineers’ Collection (352 ENG) and the Chambré Hardman archive (770 ECH). More images will be added on a regular basis and work will continue to expand and improve this aspect of the catalogue.
